TIPS TO Winterproof Your Skin

TIPS TO Winterproof Your Skin

Keeping your skin glowing and feeling healthy during these cold months can be a challenge. The colder months are well known for wreaking havoc on our complexion, from dry, flakey skin, to chapped hands and lips.

Here are some tips for preserving a healthy, radiant complexion throughout the colder months.

1) You still need SPF

Wear sunscreen every day, even during winter.

Just because it is winter, it doesn't mean you should put away your sunscreen. While there is less UVB around in winter, levels of UVA are still significant enough to age our skin.

2) Hydration, hydration, hydration

Your skin will become drier and often more sensitive with the onset of colder weather. Make sure you keep hydrated during the day. This protects the skin against water loss and helps restore the skin barrier.

If your skin is feeling dry, dehydrated or parched, add nourishing oils and serums to your skincare routine:

Our Intensive Facial Oil is an intensely moiusturing oil enriched with rich botanicals oils and antioxidants to soothe sensitive skin prone to dryness and inflammation - perfect for the winter months.

Our Hydrating Facial Serum contributes to restoring the moisture barrier function to help skin hold in its own natural moisture. Skin will be firmer, hydrated and more energised, counteracting loss of elasticity, dehydration and premature skin ageing.

3) PROTECT YOUR LIPS

Our lips are particularly sensitive to cold weather. Protect and nourish your lips by applying a generous layer of lip balm throughout the day.

4) Avoid long, hot showers

After spending time outdoors on a winter day, your first instinct might be to turn the shower heat up as far as it’ll go and bask until the hot water runs out. But your dream shower could damage your skin. One of the causes of dry skin is hot baths and showers. Set your water temp to warm, not hot.

5) Stay hydrated

Your body will show the signs if you’re not drinking enough water, but it’s easy to forget to drink the daily recommended amount.

Staying hydrated is essential to maintaining a healthy winter diet and vibrant skin. When you combine dropping temps with harsh winds and indoor heating, the result is extremely dry conditions, which lead to our bodies constantly losing moisture and our skin constantly drying out.

Make sure you drink at least a litre of water each day, as well as herbal or fruit tea.

6) Healthy Diet

A nutrient-rich diet is essential to maintaining great skin and this is especially true in the winter. Strawberries, celery and cucumbers are full of water and are good at hydrating our body. Protein, vitamin A, vitamin C and omega-3 fatty acids are all nutrients that fight dry winter skin.
